1. Diyaluma Falls – Come and fall in love with it!

Diyaluma, considered as the second tallest waterfall in Sri Lanka, at 220m is a stunning masterpiece of nature. Diyaluma or Diya Haluma stands for "rapid flow of water" or may be translated as "liquid light”. The hike is about 30 minutes, and then you’ll start hearing the sound of water flowing downhill. This beautiful waterfall is divided in to 2 parts as ‘upper Diyaluma falls’ and ‘ lower Diyaluma falls’. The lower section is just a short walk away from upper section.

The best time to visit is, during summer months when water levels are starting to reside as they form natural pools. A photo right on the edge of the main waterfall is a must do, after all the effort you’ve put in to get to the top. If you’re nervous to be in the edge, there are many safe naturally formed pools at the upper Diyaluma section.

2. Adam’s Peak - An adventurous pilgrimage

Looking for a hiking hotspot in this place like no other, then your destination is this scenic and historic Adam’s peak – also known as “Sri Padaya" or “The Sacred Footprint”. It is situated alongside the small town of Dalhousie or “Nallathanniya”, as famously known among locals, in the beautiful hill country. It is an important and sacred pilgrimage place among Sri Lankans as they believe that it is the sacred footprint of the Lord Buddha.

This staggering mountain stands approx 2250 meters tall. Pilgrims hike up the mountain, through a variety of difficult routes up, thousands of steps. The hike uphill takes at least a minimum of 5-6 hours. The conquering season is from December to May the following year. During the other months the heavy rain, thick mist and extreme wind makes it hard to climb. 

Pilgrims commence the conquering journey at night as the objective is to be on top of the mountain to witness the beautiful sunrise, when the distinctive shape of the mountain casts a triangular shadow on the surrounding plain and can be seen to move quickly downward as the sun rises.

 

3. Sigiriya Rock - A glimpse of the good old kingdom days 

Sigiriya, also known as the ‘Lion Rock’ is a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site. It is a site of historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a massive column of rock of around 180 metres high.
History states that King Kashyapa built his palace on top of this rock and decorated its sides with colourful frescoes which can be seen in its original stage to date. The ancient rock fortress on the top has a breathtaking 360 degree view, which impresses tourists just with the brilliance of its construction. It's a massive rock that have been meticulously carved and transformed into a stronghold fortress.

The best period for tourism in Sigiriya is during summer. In June and August, It makes an opportune time for good travel deals. The weather is typically overcast, humid and rainfall’s down to a bare minimum in this place like no other.

4. Ella rock - The town of Adventure

Ella (meaning water fall) is town which is very popular among local and foreign tourists. 

The area is rich in bio-diversity, dense with many varieties of flora and fauna. Ella is surrounded by mountains and is covered with cloud forests and tea plantations. The town is relatively cooler than surrounding lowlands, due to its high elevation. Ella, itself is an adventurous place to be due to multiple places one can explore. Dhowa temple, a 2,000-year-old rock temple, Ella Rock (a lookout point), Little Adam's Peak (a pyramidal-shaped hill), Ravana Ella water fall, Nine Arches Bridge in Demodara, Ravana cave and the all famous Flying Ravana zip lining adventure are just a few to name.
The best time to visit Ella is during the months of January to April. In Sri Lanka the rainy season tends to begin in October. However having said that, Ella is a very popular all year-round place of attraction in this place like no other, and is chilly compared to the coastal regions due to the altitude. 

5. Yala National Park - Come spot Leopards with us!

Yala National Park is the most popular National Park in Sri Lanka, among local and foreign travellers. It is considered as the second largest national park in this place like no other, which covers 979 square kilometres. The park is best known for its rich variety of wild life. Many tourist come to Yala to see the herds of Sri Lankan elephants, Sri Lankan leopards and aquatic birds. Yala National Park has one of the highest leopard densities in the world.
The best period to visit Yala is from March to October, during spring time. Many Leopards could be spotted during this period and for tourists, spotting leopards in the wilderness of Yala National Park is the highlight of the trip. Many number of leopards could be easily spotted during the said period.
