1. Nuwara Eliya

A blissful retreat from the hustle bustle of the city, the wonderful scenery of lush green mountain, waterfalls and slopes, the colonial touch with red brick bungalows and country house type of clubs will calm your souls. Do not forget to try out the various activities in this hilly country city. Multiple public transport services are available to Nuwara-Eliya from Colombo and generally the journey is about 4 hours, and every second is worth it. The best season to visit is from December to April. The season peaks in April. 

2. Kandy

If you and your better half are passionate about exploring different cultures, Kandy is a city that you should not miss. Kandy is considered as a sacred place in Sri Lanka as the "Dalada Maligawa", the temple where the sacred tooth relic of the Lord Buddha is placed. This temple is considered as one of the holiest shrines by the Buddhists in Sri Lanka.  

Among the misty hills and dense forests, the city is in the central province of Sri Lanka, approximately 115KM away from Colombo. Kandy has been declared as a world heritage site by UNESCO. 

A walk around Kandy Lake, the artificial lake built by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinha, would charm your souls. 

3. Dambulla:

For the newlyweds it’s important to know about the history of your better half. So, why not learn some history about Dambulla, a treasure trove of historical places, in Sri Lanka. Dambulla is situated in the north of Matale district, Central province of Sri Lanka. The town holds historical monuments of ancient times, which are worth visiting. 

The centre of attraction is the Dambulla cave temple, the largest and best-preserved cave temple in Sri Lanka, where you can see stunning sculptures and paintings carved all over on massive rocks. Lately, the Pidurangala rock also has gained immense popularity among tourists. The hike is tough, however the view at the top is simply breathtaking.  

4.Galle: 

Galle is also a place in Sri Lanka, which has been declared as a world heritage site by UNESCO. The historic city is well known as a fortified city built by the Portuguese in the Indian sub-continent. The fortress was later extended by the Dutch with colonial buildings, ancient mosques, churches, grand mansions. The city is only 1hr away from Colombo and is accessible through the expressway. Hence it has been very popular lately.  

Galle is a mélange of everything for a perfect tour. You should never miss out on visiting the Galle fort, museum, quaint cafes, concrete streets, quirky boutiques, the Galle light house, Dutch reformed church, Jungle beach and the old Dutch market. 

5. Anuradhapura:

Anuradhapura is where the first ever kingdom in Sri Lanka was established. As such, it is one of the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka. Lying in the north central province this place in Sri Lanka is famous for its well-preserved ruins of ancient Sinhalese civilisation. The sprawling complexes, towering stupas, magnificent stone cut pools and crumbling temples. Buddhist shrines and monasteries, vast reservoirs, pavilions and parks, they all display a rich collection of archaeological and architectural wonders back in ancient times. Sightseeing in this sacred city will truly be remembered for a lifetime.
