1.  Fun filled Mirissa- For the long walk you always wished

This beach town is located 150 km South of Colombo, an approx two hour drive from the capital’s airport. It is known for its romantic magic of  blue waters, white and soft sand backed by a dense groove of coconut trees.

Marissa is a renowned place in Sri Lanka, for enjoying surfing, snorkelling, whale and dolphin watching. November to April and August to October are the best seasons to enjoy this beach with your loved ones.

2.  Hikkaduwa - For the lovers of deep sea diving

You will be spellbound by the splashing blue waters and soft sands of Hikkaduwa beach. It is located in Sri Lanka’s Southern province, just 90 minutes from the commercial capital, Colombo down the Southern Expressway.

Hikkaduwa is famous as an attractive spot for sea boat rides,  snorkelling, surfing, scuba diving and gliding while you explore marine life. Due to its immense popularity, it is lined up by shops, restaurants and hotels, great beachside bars,  lively clubs and one of the best places in Sri Lanka known for its vibrant nightlife. Best season to visit Hikkaduwa is from November to April.

3. Unawatuna: Everlasting Beauty

Lying close to the centre of Galle, this banana shaped beach place in Sri Lanka, is very popular among the tourists as well as the locals. Enjoy your drink on a hot summer day on a sun bed soaking in the beauty of sparkling water with golden sand.
It’s an amazing beach which has the best waves for swimmers. On the west side of the beach, you can stroll to the Japanese Peace Pagoda statue overlooking the beautiful Indian Ocean. The road behind the beach leads to a road, hustling and bustling with vendors selling goods like clothes, jewellery and souvenirs. 
Unawatuna Beach is on your way from Galle to Matara, and the best season to visit this beach is from December to April. 





4. Nilaveli Beach: Simply awesome !! 

The Nilaveli Beach lies in the coastal town of Nilaveli, about 16km North of Trincomalee. This beach is the centre place of attraction in Sri Lanka, for tourists and locals for its pearl white sand and splashing crystal clear waters just awesome for surfing, diving and snorkelling as the water and waves of the beach are very shallow. You can also walk farther into the horizon without any danger and with water only up to chest height. 

For the shell seekers, this beach has a huge collection of cowrie, spiral conch, butterfly- winged beauties and other corals cast up to the shore with each wave. The area consists of coconut, palm grooves and beautiful budget hotels with very scenic views. A must visit place in Nilaveli is the Pigeon Island, to have a thrilling experience with Turtles and Dolphins while swimming in the ocean. Water taxis operate to take you to the Island, or you can always take a 10 minutes boat ride from Nilaveli beach. The best known season to visit is during November to April.





5. Arugam Bay: A surfer’s Paradise 

If you are a surfing freek, well we got you covered. The lovely Arugam Bay beach is the perfect place in Sri Lanka for you to harbour the love for surfing. It is located on the Eastern Coast, in Pottuvil. The beach is a moon shaped curl of soft golden sand and is an ideal place to be at leisure and chill with your favourite refreshing natural king coconut drink or enjoy some beach volleyball.

This place in Sri Lanka comes with a package of many other places of attractions one could visit in close proximity.

  • Pottuvil Lagoon- Just 4 km away from Arugam Bay, this lagoon is a forest reserve of wildlife. It is surrounded by a dense forest, a habitat for monkeys, crocodiles, elephants etc.
  • Lahugala Kitulana National Park - This national park is one of the smallest national parks in the country. Nevertheless, the park has a decent habitat of elephants and endemic birds.
  • Muhudu Maha Viharaya- The ancient buddhist temple built by King Kavan Thissa, is a beautiful white temple located in the sand dunes of Pottuvil. The place is also visible from Arugam Bay beach.
  • Kumana National Park- Though this place is not in the closest vicinity, a safari trip is a must for every wildlife lover. A jeep safari from Yala East to Kumana national park to explore leopards, elephants, herds of deers and many other flora and fauna with stunning sceneries.

The best season to visit this beautiful place in Sri Lanka is from April to September.
